Olenox Targets Cheaper Power For Bitcoin Mining Expansion

Olenox Industries is targeting a larger Bitcoin mining fleet supplied by its own energy assets, according to an October 22 company announcement. Its plan would expand approximately 9,700 machines toward 20,000, but depends on financing and infrastructure that are not yet in place.

TL;DR: Olenox wants to generate cheaper electricity before relocating and adding miners. Its proposed power costs and enlarged fleet are targets, not achieved operating results.

The company targets electricity at 1.5 cents per kilowatt-hour, compared with approximately 6 cents under existing arrangements. The contemplated mining power supply requires enough additional generators to reach 75 megawatts; that capacity is not currently represented as available.

Acquired energy assets provide a starting point

In an October 20 acquisition update, Olenox said it completed purchases of Wildboy Holdings and IPD Industries for $21.7 million, paid almost entirely with convertible Series F preferred stock. The assets include natural-gas resources in British Columbia and a power-development platform near Pecos, Texas.

The Texas platform holds a 100 MW self-generator registration, according to the company. Registration establishes a development position; it is not the same as commissioned generators delivering electricity to miners. Olenox said development would proceed in stages, subject to capital, equipment, gas-supply agreements and approvals.

This creates several separate milestones. Ownership of gas resources must be followed by generation equipment, fuel delivery and reliable site operations. A completed corporate acquisition can support that process without demonstrating that the intended electricity price has already been reached.

Existing production shows the operational challenge

The company’s October 21 production report said its CS Digital operation earned approximately 15.03 BTC in September, with average operating hashrate of 1.04 EH/s and 68% uptime. Those preliminary figures came from third-party-hosted mining, separate from the planned gas-powered development.

Olenox attributed the operating performance partly to seasonal power curtailments and reduced miner clock speeds at Pyote during summer heat. It expected normal clock speeds to resume in November, subject to operating conditions. That makes utilisation as relevant as the number of machines owned.

The commercial question is whether generating power internally produces a durable reduction in total mining costs. A lower electricity rate can be offset by generator maintenance, fuel handling, financing or periods when equipment is unavailable. Moving an existing fleet can also interrupt revenue while relocation costs are incurred.

For that reason, comparing a target generation rate with a current hosting arrangement requires matching what each price includes. The clearest evidence of progress would be sustained delivered power costs and operating output from the new sites. The completed acquisitions establish an energy platform; future commissioning and production disclosures will determine what that platform contributes to Bitcoin mining.
