Key Points

  • Virgin Voyages has started accepting Bitcoin for cruise bookings and annual passes.
  • The move reflects a growing trend of cryptocurrency adoption in the travel and hospitality industries.

Virgin Voyages has started accepting Bitcoin as a payment method for its cruise bookings. This is a first for the cruise line, which was established by Sir Richard Branson. Now, passengers can use Bitcoin to pay for their trips across the Virgin fleet.

The company’s website states that their “Annual Pass can also be purchased using Bitcoin. This is an innovative move in the industry as Virgin Voyages’ Annual Pass becomes the first cruise product to accept a cryptocurrency payment option.”

Cryptocurrency in Travel

The decision of Virgin Voyages to accept Bitcoin signifies a growing trend in the travel and hospitality sector. Various companies, including airlines and hotels, are exploring the use of cryptocurrency payments to attract younger travelers and those who are enthusiastic about digital assets.

In a related development, Travala, a travel platform that is native to cryptocurrency, announced in September that it has integrated with Skyscanner. This allows Skyscanner users to access Travala.com’s inventory of over 2.2 million hotels.
