  • Metaplanet has invested a total of 29.83 billion yen ($196.87 million) in Bitcoin.

Japanese company Metaplanet Inc. has grown its Bitcoin treasury with an extra 156 BTC. This increases its total Bitcoin holdings to 2,391 BTC.

According to the company’s official statement on March 3, the most recent acquisition was made at an average cost of 12.95 million yen ($85,483) per Bitcoin. This sums up to a total of 2.021 billion yen ($13.34 million).

Bitcoin Accumulation and Yield

Since integrating Bitcoin into its business strategy, Metaplanet has been actively accruing assets through capital market operations. From July 2024, the company’s Bitcoin holdings have grown significantly, jumping from 161 BTC to 2,391 BTC.

In its latest update, Metaplanet unveiled its BTC Yield, a performance metric that measures the ratio of Bitcoin accumulation to share dilution. The company’s BTC yield for the period from January 1 to March 3 stands at 31.8%, following a 309.8% yield in Q4 2024.

Capital Raising and Bitcoin Acquisition

Metaplanet has been proactively raising funds through bond issuances and stock purchase rights to support its Bitcoin acquisition strategy. The company raised 4 billion yen ($26.4 million) in February 2025, when it issued its 6th Series of Ordinary Bonds to EVO FUND.

These were zero-coupon bonds, which do not carry interest payments. The company planned to redeem them using the proceeds from stock acquisition rights, ensuring a self-sustaining funding strategy for its Bitcoin purchases.

By February 19, Metaplanet had repaid 2 billion yen ($13.2 million) of its bonds ahead of schedule, settling the remaining 2 billion yen by February 21. Similar to its previous sale, the company issued a fresh bond worth 2 billion yen ($13.2 million) on February 27, under its 7th Series of Ordinary Bonds. These bonds are due on August 26, 2025.

As of March 3, Metaplanet has invested a total of 29.83 billion yen ($196.87 million) in Bitcoin, with an average purchase price of 12.47 million yen ($82,322) per Bitcoin.
