HHS Secretary Tommy Thompson lambastes liberal doctors

Health and Human Services chief Tommy Thompson issued a broadside today against a group of liberal doctors, accusing them of “playing politics with children’s lives” by criticising the Bush administration’s efforts on the child health and welfare front.

Thompson offered a laundry list of achievements to rebut the attack of the liberal doctors, calling the group’s actions “absurd and despicable.”

Who are these absurd and despicable people, and what are they saying about President Bush?

I don’t know. Secretary Thompson neglected to share those details in his press release. He did, however, reach out to the hapless customers of the liberal doctors, saying “I certainly hope these doctors don’t mislead their patients the way they are deceiving people with their wild political attacks.”

As do we all, I’m sure.

The wonderful thing about the secretary’s rhetorical device is that it precludes the possibility of rebuttal. No physician’s organization can respond to it without a triumphant Thompson claiming that the group has self-identified as “absurd and despicable.”

“What makes you think I was talking about you? Are you feeling guilty about something?”

And it has the additional benefit of sparing consumers the tedious undertaking of comparing what Thompson says about the group to what the group says about the Bush administration. They’re a group. They’re liberal. “Absurd and despicable” is, really, redundant.

Clarity is the hallmark of the Bush administration, and Tommy Thompson is one of its standard bearers.

Does Thompson realize that millions of Americans have stocked up on Zocor..some with a supply to last them as long as 8 years… because they can buy a 20 milligram daily dose from Canada for 55 cents a day…while Walgreens USA charges 3.00 per day../If they stopped taking it because of USA cost, seniors will have medicare pay 30,000 dollars for coronary surgery/bypasses/angioplasties… great choice, Tommy! BE ashamed of yourself… "your daddy would not be proud of you"
