A homophobic far right Christian group is targeting Vice president Dick Cheney’s daughter, Mary Cheney, in a new fund raising effort.
Family Research Council president Tony Perkins (not the bisexual one) says Cheney, who is a lesbian, “publicly opposes the very convictions that brought her father’s political party into the White House” and that recent television appearances show she’s “working to undercut the importance of marriage to our survival as a society.”
John Aravosis, who obtained a copy of the letter and hosts an image of it on his web site (link above), says, “Wow, using the vice president’s daughter to fundraise. That takes guts. Or a total lack of brains.”
“Gall” might be a better description than “guts,” and of course it isn’t mutually exclusive with a total lack of brains.
Cheney, who worked at Coors as the corporate relations manager for the gay and lesbian market, joined her father’s campaign team in 2003*.
Laura Bush has also come under attack from Christian homophobes in recent weeks after telling Fox News host Chris Wallace that talking about a constitutional ban on gay marriage “requires a lot of sensitivity” and that “I don’t think it should be used as a campaign tool, obviously.”
Dick? George? Your friends are slapping your women around. Time to buckle up the codpiece and lay some hands on the flock.

I can’t muster up a whole lot of sympathy for Mary Cheney. After all, she helped bring an administration to power that is beholden to the fundamentalist cretins who are now calling for her head. And before that, she shilled for a company that produces godawful beer and even worse politics.
Nope, my sympathy goes instead to the gays and lesbians who don’t have Mary Cheney’s enormous financial resources to insulate them from the run-amok wingnuts Cheney’s father and his cronies have enabled.
