Venezuela’s Chavez offers cheap gas to poor Americans

Hugo Chavez has responded indirectly to demented mainstream Evangelical leader Pat Robertson’s call for the Venezuelan leader’s assassination by offering to sell inexpensive gasoline and heating oil directly to poor American communities. Reuters reports that Chavez made the comment at the end of his visit to Cuba.

“We want to sell gasoline and heating fuel directly to poor communities in the United States,” the populist leader said at the end of a visit to Communist-run Cuba on Tuesday.

Chavez did not say how Venezuela would go about providing petrol to poor communities.

Venezuelan state oil company PDVSA owns Citgo, which has 14,000 petrol stations in the United States.

The logistics would be tough; every jackleg Hummer pilot would head right down to Citgo for the dual pleasures of filling the tank with a ten and ripping off that Socialist monster at one and the same moment. But it’s a splendid, splendid riposte and Marx knows a working man could use a break at the pump.

The offer sounds like a stunt and no doubt it is to an unknown extent, but it also has the potential to resonate with Americans who are both aware of Robertson’s call for the assassination of Chavez and are suffering from the steady increase in gas prices with no promise of relief from our government. And for at least some Americans who heat their homes with oil, filling the tank at Venezuelan prices could make a huge difference; in many instances, the monthly cost of oil heat can exceed rental or mortgage costs.

Good on you, Hugo. I believe I’ll call the White House for a comment.

This is a stunt. It is actually Hugo Chavez promising to restrict the number of barrels of oil a day that he is going to pump and the price at which he is going to sell it at that is driving the price up. he knows that he runs a country that is one of the worlds largest producers of oil and he knows that he has us in a stranglehold. Same thing with OPEC. yet those same people that cry “why isnt President Bush getting the price of oil down?” He tried, when he wanted to drill off the coasts and in ANWAR. Those that opposed him have no reason to bitch, none. Hugo Chavez is a Communist that has a major card he is playing, oil. He needs to be assassinated. He sure is no friend of the US. But, to you commies out there, Castro is a pretty good guy, too huh? As long as the people have health care,…forget their dignity.

Chavez can actually do this quite easy. He controls Citgo and they have a “cash card” that is normally bought with cash and then used at the pump as a normal credit card. a local church gave me one with $10 on it so I could get gas to go on a job interview. He can easily give these away to poor people so they can buy gas at citgo locations. Unless he was just blowing smoke about wanting to help

This is a life and death issue for Hugo. He’s not blowing smoke. This is about human dignity through generosity of spirit and conscience, self empowerment and self determination, the essence of Liberty.

    You go Hugo

Galen, human dignity is a gift from God and can only be attained through subjugation to Him and His representatives on this imperfect world. God Bless America. God Bless George W. Bush.

Chavez is just another ego-maniac who is buying support from the have-nots with largesse stolen from his country’s future. He can give away the billions from his treasury and what he extorts from foreigners but soon enough the world will see another Zimbabwe style Marxist who is destroying his country’s future for his power-grab today.

He is blowing smoke! Venezuela / PDVSA / CITGO do not own any of the CITGO gas stations. They are owned by hard working, independent businessmen and businesswomen. Therefore, he has no way to “deliver” cheap gas and heating oil to the poor in America. His rhetoric is the reason he is so popular with the masses in Venezuela…they have a major poverty problem and he is making lots of promises which give them hope. Unfortunately, he’s stealing from legitimate businesses, people are disappearing (feared dead), crime is at an all time high, and guess what, most of his country is STILL living in squalor while he is enjoying the riches associated with high oil prices.

If you read some of the stories about him over the past year you will see he is not the great man he pretends to be. He has destroyed the oil business in Venezuela, stolen retirement accounts of over 17,000 PDVSA workers AND has been making promises to other countries he cannot keep. Unfortunately, the inappropriate comments of Pat Robertson have given him exactly what he wanted…an audience in the United States.
